Niantic is tapping into another popular franchise for its next augmented reality game. Following the success of Pokémon Go and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, Niantic is working with Hasbro, Tomy and developer Very Very Spaceship on a Transformers title.
In Transformers: Heavy Metal, you’ll will “team up with the likes of Bumblebee and the Autobots in the real world,” as per chief maker Phil Hong. The game is based on Niantic’s Lightship AR multiplayer platform.
It appears you will not need to stand by too long to even consider attempting it, by the same token. There will be a soft launch in certain countries soon and the global rollout is scheduled for the near future. You can pre-register, if you’re interested.
That is not by any means the only project Niantic has in works. It’s creating Pikmin Go as a team with Nintendo, the first in a series of games the organizations are making together.
