Mbalizethu Mkhize, Mrs South Africa Globe 2020, actress and model. She began her career as a model, first appearing on a national television commercial at the age of 17. She was recently awarded a scholarship by New York Film Academy, in studying Acting for film. She’s very excited to embark on this new chapter, and in her own words, “Moving from modelling to acting seemed like the next logical step in my career! I’m ecstatic that New York Film Academy was so kind as to offer me this opportunity.
To be recognized by an institution that has produced actors of such high caliber such as Damon Wayans, Naya Rivera, Issa Rae and Alfonso Riberro, is such an honour. I’m really looking forward to learning as much as possible from some of the best actors in the world!” What does the future hold? “Above all else South Africa is truly home, I really don’t know if I’d ever be able to leave it behind.
My hope is that once I’ve finished my training, I’d take part in South African TV shows, and contribute to the growing entertainment industry here. Who knows, I may try my hand at directing one day!” Those hopes are not very far in the future, as Mbali also has a new TV show coming up on SABC2! This show will address mental health issues, which hasn’t been a more relevant topic than during our COVID landscape. We’re certainly looking forward to it!
