Google TV Streamer Releases 2025’s First Update

Google is releasing the second patch update for Google TV Streamer this year, which includes several enhancements and bug fixes. The Google TV Streamer got a small update about a month after it was first made available. Now released is the first and more extensive Google TV Streamer upgrade of 2025.

The Google TV Update Fixes Bugs and Improves Security

This year’s first update from Google for the TV Streamer gadget changes the firmware version from “UTT3.240625.001” to “UTTK.241210.003.” The Android security patch level is raised to January 2025 (from August 2024) by the updated firmware. Notably, the 329MB upgrade for the most recent Google streaming gadget is far bigger than the 36MB update from the previous year.

The Google TV Streamer update eliminates DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD as detected audio codecs. A story about high-fidelity audio on the TV Streamer seems to have come to an end. The Google TV Streamer initially recognised the two Dolby audio formats, but they were never accessible or operational.

A Google TV Update Resolves issues with HDMI-CEC and Dolby Atmos

Meanwhile, several modifications brought about by the most recent Google TV Streamer upgrade have been noted by users on the Android TV subreddit (via Android Authority). It seems to have resolved a problem that prevented Dolby Surround from functioning properly by causing some Dolby Atmos outputs to freeze. According to user feedback, it also fixes an issue with HDMI-CEC that affects volume control. The Voice Remote for the TV Streamer was updated to version 1.02 as part of the update.

Google’s firmware version and release notes page does not yet reflect this update. Users report that this update resolves a problem with Dolby Atmos becoming stuck, and DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD are no longer mentioned as detected codecs (via Android Authority). Additionally, connected webcams are identified more reliably.
