One of the highest honours will soon be given to Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar for his contributions to Mumbai and Indian cricket. A life-size statue of the famed former cricketer will be erected inside the renowned Wankhede Stadium, where he played his final match for India in 2013, ten years after his retirement from international cricket.
The statue will be revealed either on April 30 in honour of Sachin’s 50th birthday or later this year during the 50-over World Cup, according to Indian Express.
Everyone is aware of Tendulkar’s contributions to cricket and that he is a Bharat Ratna. It will be a tiny gift from the MCA in honour of his 50th birthday. His consent was granted when I spoke with him three weeks ago, Kale added.
In the nation’s cricket stadiums, there aren’t many life-size statues. Only three different statues of the former Indian captain Colonel CK Nayudu have been erected thus far; they are located at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) stadium in Nagpur, and the VDCA stadium in Andhra.
With relation to cricket players memorialised in sculptures at stadiums, the venerable Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) boasts a life-size statue of the late Shane Warne. Warne passed away in 2017.
